h2.Garden Variety Bluejay
...and by that I mean it's BJ in some kind of garden I guess.
Hey, have I ever mentioned, I kinda hate inking? It's really tedious and I'm kinda bad at it. So I thought, what would it be like if I just... didn't? A little something like this I guess!
This is also an further experiment with using 3D to help with my 2D. I always feel a little bad whenever I get blender's help to do some 2D work, I feel like people are going to be upset and think it's cheating somehow, but then every single time the resulting picture does fucking numbers. So I guess there must be something to it and I should probably investigate it further!
To be 100% clear, this is not a paint over or anything like that, every pixel you see here was created by me from the ground up. Instead, this time around it was more like I created my own reference material and just followed it very closely. I started by creating a quick render in blender, just BJ in a void with some lighting, and then got to painting. It's hard to express just now much of a help it is for someone who struggles with visual imagination to be able to pre-calculate the lighting for a painting and then just paint what I see in 2D afterword. And not inking definitely sped the process up- this didn't take much longer than a flat-colour picture does. I'm still extremely shakey on my digital shading, I need to get a handle on using textured brushes better, but.... for a quick experiment, kinda pleased!
