h4.Oh no I made another thing
h4.
I decided to take the weekend "off" and have a little fun, but as always with me, taking time off just means working on my own stuff instead because I have a problem I don't know how to relax please send help reasons.
For this particular 'relaxation' session, I wanted to mess around with an idea I'd had in my head for a bit. I wanted to see if I could "kitbash" together a model from other bits and pieces and see how quickly I could make a functional unique(ish) model. It's pretty common to borrow bits and pieces from existing models when making a new one, but the idea here was to take not must the mesh, but also entire chunks of the rig as well, and stitch them all together into a new one. If it went well, the rigging would be done almost just as soon as the model was put together, all I'd have to do is texture paint and add fur and away we go. And you know what? It more or less worked. Managed to put this together in just two days, and I could have done it a lot faster if I didn't also do a bunch of custom work to make her a lil' more unique because I couldn't help myself.
I don't know how useful this will be exactly, but it was a fun experiment. Could maybe be a good technique to keep in mind if I ever wanna make background characters that aren't just recolours of existing characters? By mixing and matching bits I can make something that looks a little unique at least, without having to build new stuff from the ground up. I dunno, we'll see.
As for the character? Why did I make this in particular? Well, funny story.
In the original final fantasy tactics for the PS1, there's a spell called "Foxbird".
That's it that's the story. Every time I saw the spell I always found myself thinking "Hrmmmm, that's a fun combo". Fun enough that I couldn't stop mulling the idea around in my head, and even come up with a simple character design and started slipping her into the background of various pictures. She's been rolling around in my head for ages, I guess I figured it's time she made the leap into a real character.
Up until I made this I had always pictured her as female, but I dunno, I need a bird I can cage, all my other birds ain't got no balls. And birds and cages are just such a good pair, right? I may reverse this decision at some point in the future, or potentially even make this a character where I just pick the gender based on whatever I want in the moment, she certainly wouldn't be the first character who's gender bent toward the mood of their owner. But for now, she's gonna be a pretty lil' caged girly bird, who apparently works in some sort of kink shop and visits the museum in her downtime.
What do you think, is she a good bird?
Now, to think of a name...
