This will take some explaining. Bear with me.
I've been wanting to make a character with mental powers for a while now so I can indulge in my occasional dark mind-control art ideas a bit better. None of my existing characters really fit the bill for a character with hypno-powers, I felt, and while I do have the hypno-critters that everyone seem to love so much, they don't really scratch the itch for me in the way that I want. The hypno-critters are more like a natural disaster, a hurricane of sexual pleasure blowing through an area. What I want is a way to explore the darker side, the absolute domination of mind control.
Yeah, it's a little dark but that's what art's for, so sue me.
So I knew I'd be needing a new character, but at the same time it felt like a shame to ignore the little creatures entirely since they're such an obvious avenue toward the whole hypno theme. That's when I had an idea for how to sort of meet in the middle, and I thought it was really interesting (if not entirely original), so naturally it's been eating away at the back of my brain so much for the last little while that I just had to get something down. It was either this or make a model and this crappy doodle is faster so we'll start here, hah.
Here's the idea- we've seen in the past that "characters with mental powers are often unaffected by the little creature's hypnotic effects.":/posts/2668354 Dr. Rasa here was a scientist with some low-level mental powers of her own but wasn't satisfied with her limited abilities. She had seen the way that the hypno critters could reduce an entire room of people into a gibbering mess and wanted to unlock that level of control for herself, so being unaffected by the creatures, she easily captured one and would 'borrow' tools and equipment from her lab to study the poor animal in her spare time.
For years it was tormented- regularly drugged and poked with needles and cut open, all the while being exposed to the doctor's mind through her low level abilities, unbeknownst to her. The creatures may be powerful hypnotics but their minds are fairly simple otherwise, usually running mostly on base instincts, but this constant exposure to a fully sentient mind through the doctor's powers awoke something a bit like sentience in the creature itself, and allowed it to break through whatever barriers prevented it from affecting the doctor prior. The doctor's abilities weren't strong enough to notice what was happening until it was too late. The creature took action and, fueled by years of fear and rage, smothered out the doctor's consciousness entirely.
The doctor is gone now, nothing of her still exists. The body that remains is merely a tool the creature uses to navigate it’s environment. It can speak through her voice, see through her eyes, and it uses it's now empowered abilities to take out it’s anger on the other inhabitants of this world while satisfying the perverse urges that still remain from the time before it’s newfound sentience.
Hey, I figure if we're gonna go dark, we may as well go all the way...
So that's where I'm at with this idea right now. Lemme know what you think- about the idea, the character, the design, the name. Especially the name, is it dumb? It might be dumb. This whole thing might be dumb. It's really hard to tell from the inside. As a viewer from outside the whole concept, lemme know what you think. x3
